💬Delaware in Conversation Speaker Series Celebrates Final Event

The Friends of Fort DuPont closed out its Delaware speaker series final event with a wonderful evening at the Delaware City Library, bringing nearly 35 community members together for an engaging program focused on Delaware history, storytelling, and conversation.

A Strong Finish to the Delaware Speaker Series Final Event

The final event featured Margaret Opsata, an award-winning writer and editor, who led a fascinating discussion on The Poisoned Candy Murders. Her presentation offered attendees a compelling look into a dramatic chapter of Delaware history, blending true crime, local context, and thoughtful storytelling in a way that kept the audience engaged from beginning to end.

This strong turnout was a fitting conclusion to the Friends’ inaugural speaker series, which brought people together over several months to explore stories, traditions, history, and ideas connected to Delaware.

Four Talks Focused on Delaware Stories

Presented in partnership with Delaware Humanities and the Delaware City Library, the series included four different talks, each focused on Delaware from a unique perspective. Together, these programs invited the community to think more deeply about the people, places, events, and shared experiences that shape life in the First State.

Across all four programs, well over 100 people joined us for thoughtful conversations about Delaware. Each event created a welcoming space for residents, neighbors, and visitors to learn, ask questions, and connect with one another.

Thank You to Our Speaker, Partners, and Attendees

The Friends of Fort DuPont extends a sincere thank you to Margaret Opsata for sharing her knowledge, research, and storytelling with our audience during the final program.

We are also deeply grateful to everyone who attended the final event and supported the series throughout its inaugural season. Your participation helped make this first year of the program such a meaningful success.

A special thank you goes to the Delaware City Library for hosting the series and providing such a welcoming space for community learning and discussion. The Friends also thanks Delaware Humanities for making this speaker series possible through its humanities programming and continued support for public conversations across Delaware.

Activating Community Through Public Programs

For the Friends of Fort DuPont, this series was about more than hosting events. It was about activating community, strengthening partnerships, and creating opportunities for people to gather, learn, and engage with Delaware’s history and culture.

The success of the Delaware speaker series final event, along with the strong attendance throughout the four-part series, shows the continued value of community-based programming at Fort DuPont and in Delaware City.

As the Friends continues to grow its public programs, partnerships, and preservation efforts, the success of this inaugural series is an exciting reminder of what is possible when people come together around shared stories and a shared sense of place.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this first speaker series such a success. We look forward to continuing to offer programs that celebrate Delaware history, support community connection, and advance the mission of the Friends of Fort DuPont.
