The Friends of Fort DuPont welcomed 14 participants for our recent Summer Colors nature walk at Fort DuPont State Park, making it our highest-attended nature walk to date. The weather was a little hot, but the strong turnout and enthusiastic participation made for a wonderful morning outdoors along this scenic part of the Delaware River.
This walk was the second program in our 2026 nature walk series and continued the Friends’ successful partnership with Delaware State Parks. It also marks the second year that the Friends of Fort DuPont has offered guided nature walks, helping connect the community with the natural beauty, history, and ecology of Fort DuPont and Delaware City.
A Successful Summer Colors Nature Walk at Fort DuPont
During the Summer Colors nature walk, participants explored the local flora and fauna found at Fort DuPont this time of year. From native plants and seasonal blooms to wildlife habitat along the riverfront landscape, the program offered a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the natural resources that make this site so special.
The walk highlighted the colors, textures, and seasonal changes that define summer along this part of the Delaware River. Attendees had the chance to slow down, observe the landscape, ask questions, and better understand the plant and animal life that can be found throughout Fort DuPont State Park.
Growing Interest in Outdoor Programs at Fort DuPont
The success of this walk reflects growing interest in outdoor education, community programming, and nature-based experiences at Fort DuPont. With 14 people in attendance, this was the Friends’ highest turnout yet for a nature walk and an exciting sign of continued momentum for these programs.
For the Friends of Fort DuPont, programs like the Summer Colors nature walk are an important part of our mission to activate the Fort through public events, partnerships, education, and community engagement. These walks create accessible opportunities for people to enjoy the site, learn from knowledgeable guides, and experience Fort DuPont in a new way.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and helped make this our best-attended nature walk yet. We also extend a sincere thank you to Delaware State Parks for their continued partnership and for helping make these educational walks possible.
This was the second of three nature walks planned for 2026. The final walk of the year will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, and will focus on fall foliage at Fort DuPont State Park. We look forward to welcoming the community back for another opportunity to explore, learn, and enjoy the changing seasons at the Fort.
